When I started working toward my MA in the fall of 2006 I intended to finish and then get a job at a local community college. After about a year I began to consider applying to PhD programs. I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to at least another four years but I truly loved what I was doing and couldn’t imagine stopping. So, I decided I would apply and let the fates decide. If I got accepted to a good program I would go…if I didn’t I would stay and not reapply.
Well here I am in a PhD program and just completed my coursework (May 2011)! Two years flew by. I started the program in the Fall of 2009 after moving from my hometown of Fresno, CA to Syracuse, NY. My spouse and I had never lived outside of California but decided this program was worth moving for. So far we are thrilled we made the decision to move. We’ve made incredible friends and have had our first child! Syracuse has been good to us.
I sit here today happy to be done with coursework but also appreciating the great classes I’ve taken and the guidance I’ve received from faculty! I am looking forward to prepping for exams and my aim is to take them in October 2011. Here’s to a reading intensive summer!
